2023 Roger O’Sullivan Award for Family, School and Community Partnerships for Learning

lkw_30_LR.jpg

St Mary’s Parish School, Warren, Diocese of Wilcannia-Forbes and The Lion King Musical

Last year we announced our first placegetters in our annual $5000 grant for family, school and community partnerships for learning, the Roger O'Sullivan Awards. You can read the story here, featuring Mount Carmel Catholic College, Varroville and their Home–School Literacy Partnership project: https://ccsp.schoolzineplus.com/newsletter/article/387

Coming in second place, with a $2500 grant awarded to the school, was St Mary’s Parish School, Warren, Diocese of Wilcannia-Forbes and The Lion King Musical.

Two performances of The Lion King Jnr were performed by students to over 800 locals, neighbouring community members and travellers. The PnF were successful in receiving a community grant to assist our school community with expenses which allowed the school to deliver a professional performance with sound, lighting, and sets. Parents came on board to collaborate and design costume elements, face painting/make up, hair, sets, painting, and craft. The parent community were highly enthusiastic and worked hard to make the school production look & feel truly magical. It was an experience that our ‘bush kids’ had never had before.

The school will purchase audio equipment with their award money, to be used for performances, presentations, liturgies, Mass, Grandparents Day, and several other significant school and wider community events, and shared with surrounding schools.

What a great project! The judges loved this uplifting story about a small rural community and how everyone became involved in putting on this musical extravaganza!
